Who We Are
Antifreeze solutions play a critical role in protecting fire sprinkler systems installed in areas subject to freezing temperatures. Over time, antifreeze concentration can change due to dilution, leakage, contamination, evaporation, or improper maintenance practices. When antifreeze concentration falls outside acceptable limits, the solution may no longer provide adequate freeze protection or may not comply with applicable NFPA requirements.
Antifreeze solution testing provides an evaluation of solution concentration and condition rather than a simple pass/fail result. This information can be used to determine whether corrective action is needed, verify compliance with approved antifreeze formulations, and support ongoing inspection, testing, and maintenance programs. Periodic testing can also help identify trends over time and confirm that freeze protection measures continue to perform as intended.
Samples with out-of-specification concentrations or other indicators of degradation may suggest an increased risk of freezing, system impairment, or noncompliance with applicable requirements. By proactively evaluating antifreeze solution conditions, organizations can make informed maintenance decisions, support life safety objectives, and maintain confidence in the reliability and readiness of their fire sprinkler systems.

NFPA 25 requires the testing of antifreeze solutions in fire sprinkler systems to verify that the concentration remains within acceptable limits and that the solution continues to provide the intended level of freeze protection. Testing is commonly performed as part of periodic inspection and maintenance programs, following system modifications or antifreeze replacement, or whenever questions arise regarding solution concentration, condition, or compliance.
These services are commonly used by building owners, facility managers, contractors, service providers, consultants, insurers, and other fire protection professionals responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and reliability of fire sprinkler systems utilizing antifreeze. Laboratory testing provides objective data that supports maintenance planning, compliance activities, and informed decision-making related to system performance and freeze protection.

Yes, although we do have Antifreeze sample kits we use the same sample bottles for both kits. We do have a separate paper or fillable form for each. The foam form is in the kit box and the antifreeze form can be found online.
Yes, if a premix antifreeze solution is being used, it must be tested annually before the onset of freezing weather. Read the articles on our Resources page under Antifreeze for more information.
